A farmer with an odd attitude. When his horse ran away,
his neighbors said, “Such bad luck…”
“Maybe,” he replied.

When the horse returned with three other wild horses,
the neighbors exclaimed, “How wonderful!”
“Maybe,” he replied.

His son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown,
and broke his leg. The neighbors offered sympathy on his misfortune.
“Maybe,” answered the farmer.

The very next day military officials came to draft young men into the army.  Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.
“Maybe,” he said…

I often think of this story when I start to judge my life…
I remember all the situations and circumstances I thought were “bad” that turned out to be “good”, -and all the situations and circumstances that seemed “good”
that turned out to be “not so good.”

I lost a baby close to birth…hard!
Yet, the experience gave me a deep appreciation for the miracle of life and eyes to see the blessing in my four children.
I thought I would be married forever, ended up divorced.
Yet, the experience helped me to find my voice and my Strength.
I landed in a profession that at one point I judged as “crazy!”
Yet, the experience of walking with others on holy ground has brought more love and joy into my life…

Perhaps the farmer is on to something; to take life as it comes and greet it with a heartfelt,

Reflection: “I’m just along for the ride…”
